The new Chatchai Saskul gym is up and on the brink of Grand Opening, in Lam Luk Ka, North of Bangkok. The new gym is gorgeous, spacious, and will host fight events monthly. I can never recommend highly enough training with Chatchai, he is a superlative teacher in so many ways and I always take so much away from each session. He is former WBC World Champion in Boxing, Trainer of the Year 2x, and...

Sylvie you look and sound BAD ASS speaking Thai. LOVE IT !!
What about side teep from lead side southpaw?
Thank you
you're so beautifully articulate when you explain the techniques ! Thank you Sylvie !
Is the back fist allowed in Muay Thai?
@@morenoh149 yes.
Great life advice as well.
I am learning Thai, (very very basic beginner) but I love these because I can practice listening and differentiating your words and expressions. So thank you!
Your comments about the parts in between as being the work of art resonates very precisely with a great article recently written by L.M. Sacasas at The Convivial Society. I don't think I can post links on UA-cam, but it's called The Work of Art if you're interested. Nice bit of synchronicity to hear the same statement from two very different sources in the same week.
As an international viewer, I wholeheartedly support extended Thai language vlogs such as these; if it helps the cause of the channel and your overarching project, pls do more of them. (Hopefully I am speaking for a lot of us when I say) it does not take away from the experience for me at all.
🙏🏼 Sawasdee Krub Sylvie ❤
does twins, topking, yokkao, fairtex, boon craft their equipment equally in terms of quality?
Yo, maybe to add names [in description field] and if any url refernices for these guys.
Thank you! :)
Pi Oy! What a legend! 40 hours travelling on a bus, 3 hours standing still recording, and then probably 6+ hours editing the raw footage Those trees with the light coloured trunk and smooth bark look so much like Eucalyptus trees, is that what they are? They would have cresent/sickle shaped leaves. Im from Australia and its so strange to me seeing Eucalyptus trees in other countries.

great stuff Sylvie I'm a senior citizen woman I would have loved to do muai this when I was young but never had an oprantunity but I love to watch your fights and training please excuse my spelling lots of love from Marian Kilkenny Ireland🌹😁❤️
I was just watching the fight for the 100th time again earlier today.... What a beauty it is.....
Yeah ive watched a thousand times i just finished watching it today too
beautiful stuff, thank you for the breakdown 🙏 I wish stadium fights that enouraged this style were more popular in the west instead of ONE's take on muay thai
Would this be a good style for someone who is MUCH taller than everyone else? I'm 6'9", 210. Skinny basketball player muscle. The issue is that when I get into a clinch with people much shorter than me, but weight about the same, my arms drape off of them and I don't have a lot of control. However, when they finally hook me (although it is harder for them because I am so tall), they use all their weight and leverage and just dominate contorlling me.
By any chance have you talked about oley sylvie???
I was wondering and watching this fight yesterday and now you breakdowned it thank you legends and sylvie.
ราชาที่ไร้บัลลัง
Teeps to the groin were legal?!? Is this still the case?
Yes. Even kicks to the groin are technically legal, only knees are prohibited as a foul.
If really that is the case.... it's horrible and needs to be called out for a change.. like... right now..
Very nice breakdown. Where do you find these tapes? I can't get them stateside.
You can watch the Somrak vs Boonlai fight on UA-cam: ua-cam.com/video/vECE43SAw1E/v-deo.html
@@8limbsUs Thank you
I stopped wearing wraps alltogether 2 months ago for my training and added forearm conditioning drills, I'm starting to finally develop some good punching technique, a whole year of only wraps and gloves didn't get me to punch properly
Phenomenal
this gym is so harsh that they have a concrete pillar in the ring😁💪
Damn, it was 3x knees to the liver. Bravo 🙏🇹🇭
What Lbs gloves are you wearing? 🇹🇭❤️
800th 'like' :)
that’s so cool congrats sis
Thongchai is so underrated. I personally have him in my top 10 all time and he’s my one of my favorite Muay Matt fighters along with Coban and Anuwat.
Sylvie you are such an inspiration 😭 I love that you are such an athlete and an artist, thanks for documenting so much good Muay Thai stuff and being so open with your thoughts and weird connections and weird cacti
You deserve all the props great work thanks you for bringing us along
Witches are bad asses, so it fits!
That's an awesome introduction!
Be recognized, recognize, moment of being recognized i counter this when playing football. I love like know muaythai becaus of you sylvie. I have a question if you dont mind how did you learn thai language you are really fluent. Keep up sylvie legend
I took lessons for the first year, learning to read and write. But it wasn't until 2 years in, moving to Pattaya, when I really HAD to speak Thai and started booking my own fights and so was reading/writing messages a lot. It took a while, but it's been consistent immersion.
Thanks
Now THAT is muay thai! Sawadeekhap!
This stuff is awesome! thanks so much for sharing. It can truly be as simple as 'Standing well'. Wow. And you saying 'he looks like he is waiting for a bus' hahaha
I don’t get the difference of running into or away traffic cause one u see the car coming the other you don’t especially if u got headphones
Running against traffic is so that you can see the cars.
Where can I find that John Williams interview? I am a m musician and film audio mixer and would love to listen to that story.
Hello sylvie I hope you are doing well. I just wanted to know when do you post a video with Anantasak Panyuthapum? He's one of the greatest and one of my favorites and I would love to see him explaining his techniques Khrab pum. 🙏
We just filmed with him and a few others, so his session is in the queue and will be up in a few months.
Speaking of Muay Thai and musical scores, I’ve always wondered what the relationship is between the music that is played during a fight and the fight/fighters/audience. Thanks as always for the runcasts!
The music is meant to be live and in that way the musicians and fighters are engaging each other. When the fighters pick up the pace, the music does too. Also, if the fighters are a bit slow, the musicians will play faster or near the ends of rounds play to incite action.
I have a question. When fighters get their nickname do one person give it to them or people from the public?? And how does it stick
Usually sports writers give them.
Well explained for us mere males xo
The google location pic isnt helpful at all =)
It's so you can see spelling and check it against a Google search. The video is for multiple formats, some of which don't permit links.
I'm not sure if this sufficiently explains the brutality and violence in Muay Thai in the context of Theravada Buddhism. Not to mention the gambling and families using their children to get themselves out of poverty by subjecting them to brutal physical and psychological abuse. I feel like Aikido would embody more the nonviolence concepts that you described. It almost sounds like Muay Thai using Buddhist techniques/concepts to cope with and exert violence, rather than Buddhism influencing Muay Thai.
[Kevin writing] I think you're expressing a pretty limited view of Thailand's Muay Thai, and contrasting it with a studio art (Aikido) that was invented by one man maybe explains some of this misunderstanding. Muay Thai is the product of probably at least 500 years of cultural development, and is deeply embedded not only within Siamese Buddhism, but also its concepts of masculinity. If interested you can read up on Thai Buddhism & Masculinity as it is expressed in Muay Thai here (Peter Vail's dissertation): 8limbsus.com/blog/thai-masculinity-postioning-nak-muay-between-monkhood-and-nak-leng-peter-vail << It's a combat, ring sport fighting art which evolved through the aggressive contact of real bodies over 100s of 100,000s of full contact fights, it wasn't invented by a person. I also suspect that reducing the motivations for Muay Thai participation to "poverty" really misses the cultural dimensions of its production. What you call "poverty" includes "rural subsistence living", which was the predominant way of life in Siam for centuries, indeed mainland Southeast Asia itself. Rural subsistence living indeed arguably contained many injustices and dependencies, but simply reducing it to the modernist social stain of "poverty" really robs its people of both their own culture & the dignity of agency itself. It's quite likely that provincial Muay Thai developed through festival celebration, following the patterns of harvest and planting, in seasons where "work" was not happening (in a relative sense). If you want a little insight into the circulations of status, income, spiritual merit through young sons in the case of 1990s Muay Thai (a very slim sliver of its history), you can look at this: 8limbsus.com/muay-thai-forum/topic/2719-the-3-circulations-of-thailands-rural-muay-thai-buddhism-rice-masculinity/ --- as to issues of child labor, a lot of the discussion of child labor is seen particularly through the very Westernized concepts of Industrialization, including the idealization of childhood in the Victorian era. The Industrialization of the West is a somewhat poor glass to view rural economic life and meaning, and this leads to people talking past each other.
Wow, from 9 years ago. Billy Robinson teaches the same grip in catch. For extra pressure use your forehead as the anvil for the forearm's guillotine.
"I am not a Kruu..." Super good teacher in my book. Thanks for the great lesson!
Love the interviews and content in general with the OGs of Muay Thai! They have so much wisdom to share
